The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed was bred for the purpose of warming laps in cold castles and on chilly carriage rides providing their Excellencies with loyal companionship
CKC S were mostly known as the ladies pets but under the Stuarts they were given the royal title of King Charles Spaniels. King Charles IIwrote a decree that all King Charles Spaniels be accepted in all public places, even in the Houses of Parliament where other pets were not allowed. This is still in existence today in England.
In 1928 a club was founded and titled Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. By January of 1996 the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was fully recognized by the American Kennel Club.
